November is National Adoption Month so I am SO excited to share this story with you guys! It is such a feel good story (something we all need in 2020, right?). I will let Kylie tell you her journey to becoming Sloane’s mommy in her own words. They waited so long but as she says at the end, Sloane was made for them!
“Our infertility journey started 7 years ago. We went through IUI and several rounds of IVF. We lost 5 babies in that time. Infertility is a grueling journey that I would not wish on anyone. It makes you question yourself, your body, and your mind. It’s tests your faith and your marriage. On top of the physical and emotional toll it is so financially draining as well.
Throughout our journey Will was by my side the entire time. He came to every blood draw, ultrasound, scan, or appointment. He would drive me to my acupuncture appointments and wait outside. He was truly my rock. I wanted nothing more than to give him a child. I knew he would make the most amazing father.
After another miscarriage in August 2019 we decided that we were done with IVF. We knew we just wanted to be parents! A biological baby was not important to us.
So we did a lot of research and chose an adoption agency in November of 2019. We had to go through the home study process and build our profile book which would be shown to prospective birth mothers around the country. That’s where you came in! Making us look good and capturing our life together and our home.
Finally in June of 2020 we went active with our agency and were starting to be presented. The wait is hard, you are constantly wondering if you will ever be chosen. On September 2 2020 we got the call that we had been selected by a birth family! It was the most exciting call I have ever received! I tried calling Will to conference him in and he wasn’t answering!! I probably called him 10 times and sent him multiple 911 text messages in the matter of 5 minutes. The social worker told us a little bit about Sloane’s mother, father, and the pregnancy. We found out she was due October 4th!
The next day we got to speak to Sloane’s birth mother on the phone. When we asked her what drew her to our profile she said “I really liked your smiles” which was the sweetest thing in the world!
Over the next month we developed a relationship with Sloane’s birth family through text and calls. We decided to head out early to Arkansas so we could be there for her birth. We got to meet her birth parents before she was born and get to know them on a personal level. Sloane was born on October 3 2020 at 7:40 am. Will and I both got to be in the delivery room when she was born! It was amazing and emotional in so many ways. You feel the gravity of the situation knowing that this day is one of the best days for us but one of the worst days for her sweet birth parents. Her birth parents are brave, kind, and beautiful. They chose to place Sloane for adoption so she could have the best life possible. They wanted the world for her and made this choice with so much love. We have an open adoption so her birth parents will always be part of her life. She will always know she has two sets of parents who love her unconditionally.
We are incredibly blessed to be Sloane’s mommy and daddy! We know this was gods plan the whole time and Sloane was made just for us.”
